Job summary

NorCal Arts is seeking a Music Director to guide the vocal artistic elements in collaboration with the Show Director. You will work with the cast, crew, and production team to ensure a compelling performance.

You must read music, demonstrate keyboard proficiency, and engage with diverse communities. A California driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

Compensation Range:

$55 per hour for teaching, $16.90 per hour for planning, Extra tech week hours beyond the original schedule are at a tech rate of $20.00

Job Summary:

The Music Director, in tandem with the Show Director is responsible for guiding the the vocal artistic elements of a NorCal Arts production. They work collaboratively with the cast, crew, and production team to ensure a successful and compelling performance.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications:

• Must have a Bachelor degree (BA, BS, etc.) in a related field (Music, Theater Arts) or have reached Senior level of college (some Juniors may be considered);
• Ability to read music and demonstrate sufficient keyboard proficiency to play vocal lines, teach melodies and harmonies, and support students during music rehearsals.
• Work well with people in various communities, especially the school environment.
• Cultural competency to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Work with variety of community-based organizations, residents and stakeholders
• Work in a team environment with minimal supervision
• Some experience in team building and group dynamics
• Experience in meeting facilitation, and/or community relations
• Ability to work independently, be flexible, and manage multiple priorities
• Work well in a team-oriented environment and maintain harmonious relationships
• Proficient computer skills, especially using Microsoft Suite or Google Suite (some positions)
• Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills
• Experience with public speaking and presentations
• Must have a California Driver’s license, reliable transportation and auto insurance coverage;

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

Must be flexible working in a fast-paced, non-profit environment. Experience in musical theater a must. This position works primarily at program sites that require candidates to willingly use personal equipment such as cell phone and laptop/tablet. To work at school sites, all candidates must undergo clearances/ background checks.

Salary & Schedule:

The Music Director position is a non-exempt, part-time position that pays at a competitive pay rate of $55 per teaching hour, plus $16.90 per planning hour. Extra tech week hours beyond the original schedule are at a tech rate of $20.00. The pay rate offered to a candidate is commensurate with experience and/or project. Candidates must be open to working a flexible schedule of a minimum 2 to 4 hours a week, evenings & weekends sometimes required.
