Job summary

Absolute Hospice in Newark, OH is seeking an experienced Music Therapist for a PRN role to provide music therapy services to hospice patients and families, contracted or employed through the organization. The Therapist assesses needs, documents care in the patient’s chart, educates staff and the community about music therapy, and supports bereavement follow-up and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy or equivalent.
• Licensed to practice as Music Therapist – Board Certified (MT-BC) in the state.
• At least two years of experience as a music therapist; hospice experience preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
• Understanding hospice philosophy and focus on comfort at home when possible.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient and family music therapy needs and provide services.
• Consult with interdisciplinary team about referrals and interventions.
• Document care in the patient’s clinical record per documentation requirements.
• Educate hospice staff and community about music therapy and its use.
• Assist with support groups and bereavement follow-up as appropriate.
• Serve as an educational resource to staff and the community.
• Support organizational strategic goals and quality improvement.
• Maintain confidentiality and support patient-centered end-of-life care.
• Participate in the organization’s quality assessment and performance improvement program.

Absolute Hospice is expanding and seeking an experienced Music Therapist

The Hospice Music Therapist contracted or employed through the organization is responsible for providing music therapy services and for adherence to all conditions outlined in the Service Employment Agreement.

Additional responsibilities of our Hospice Music Therapist include:

• Assess music therapy needs of the patient/family and provide music therapy services to the hospice patients and their families, as appropriate.
• Consult with interdisciplinary team about patient referrals to assess needs and prioritize intervention.
• Document all care provided on the patients’ clinical record in accordance with Hospice’s documentation requirements.
• Educate hospice staff and community about the role of the Music Therapist and the use of music therapy interventions with hospice patients and families.
• Assist with facilitating support groups upon request, and ensure effective use of resources.
• Provide bereavement follow-up to family members when determined appropriate by the interdisciplinary team.
• Serve as an educational source to staff, care partners and the community.
• Ensure implementation of strategic goals.
• Adhere to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff and the organization.
• Participate in Hospice’s success by ensuring access to our exceptional care.
• Support and promote the Hospice’s mission to lead in providing exceptional patient centered end-of-life care and grief support to anyone affected by a terminal illness.
• Participate in the organization’s quality assessment and performance improvement program.

Requirements

• Possesses a bachelor’s degree or equivalency in Music Therapy, with experience. Master’s degree is preferred.
• Licensed to practice as Music Therapist – Board Certified (MT-BC) within the state.
• At least two (2) years of appropriate experience as a music therapist. Community/hospice experience is preferred.
• Demonstrates good verbal and written communication, and organization skills.
• Understands hospice philosophy, focus of care is comfort vs. rehab and to maintain care in their residence as long as possible.
