Job summary

Absolute Hospice in Cambridge, OH is seeking an experienced Music Therapist to join our hospice team on a PRN basis. The role focuses on providing music therapy services to patients and families within the hospice program.

The therapist will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, document all care, educate staff and the community about music therapy, and support bereavement follow-up as needed. The position emphasizes compassionate, patient-centered end-of-life care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalency in Music Therapy; Master’s degree preferred.
• Licensed to practice as Music Therapist – Board Certified (MT-BC) in the state.
• At least two (2) years of experience as a music therapist; hospice/community experience preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assess music therapy needs of patients and families and provide therapy services as appropriate.
• Consult with interdisciplinary team about referrals and prioritize interventions.
• Document all care in the patient’s medical record per documentation requirements.
• Educate hospice staff and the community about music therapy and interventions.
• Provide bereavement follow-up to family members as appropriate by the team.
• Serve as an educational resource to staff and the community.
• Support the organization’s strategic goals and maintain patient confidentiality.

Music Therapist | Hospice | PRN

Absolute Hospice is expanding and seeking an experienced Music Therapist

The Hospice Music Therapist contracted or employed through the organization is responsible for providing music therapy services and for adherence to all conditions outlined in the Service Employment Agreement.

Additional responsibilities of our Hospice Music Therapist include:

• Assess music therapy needs of the patient/family and provide music therapy services to the hospice patients and their families, as appropriate.
• Consult with interdisciplinary team about patient referrals to assess needs and prioritize intervention.
• Document all care provided on the patients’ clinical record in accordance with Hospice’s documentation requirements.
• Educate hospice staff and community about the role of the Music Therapist and the use of music therapy interventions with hospice patients and families.
• Assist with facilitating support groups upon request, and ensure effective use of resources.
• Provide bereavement follow-up to family members when determined appropriate by the interdisciplinary team.
• Serve as an educational source to staff, care partners and the community.
• Ensure implementation of strategic goals.
• Adhere to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff and the organization.
• Participate in Hospice’s success by ensuring access to our exceptional care.
• Support and promote the Hospice’s mission to lead in providing exceptional patient centered end-of-life care and grief support to anyone affected by a terminal illness.
• Participate in the organization’s quality assessment and performance improvement program.

Requirements

• Possesses a bachelor’s degree or equivalency in Music Therapy, with experience. Master’s degree is preferred.
• Licensed to practice as Music Therapist – Board Certified (MT-BC) within the state.
• At least two (2) years of appropriate experience as a music therapist. Community/hospice experience is preferred.
• Demonstrates good verbal and written communication, and organization skills.
• Understands hospice philosophy, focus of care is comfort vs. rehab and to maintain care in their residence as long as possible.
