Music Teacher (Jr./Sr. High .5 Band/Summit Elementary .5 Music)

Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' understanding and appreciation of music, including listening to a wide range of genres, periods, and styles. To identify, promote, and develop each student's talents in instrumental musical expression.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and administer a music education curriculum aligned with district goals.
  • Create a safe, engaging classroom environment conducive to instruction and student learning.
  • Design balanced lessons that allow time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction.
  • Assess student progress regularly and adapt teaching methods to meet individual needs, including students with special needs.
  • Utilize diverse music literature appropriate to the curriculum.
  • Plan and direct rehearsals and performances outside the classroom setting.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through seminars, workshops, or research.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement, attendance, and activities.
  • Foster parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure student conduct aligns with school standards and policies, maintaining a productive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Manage music supplies and equipment, ensuring proper inventory and maintenance.
Additional Duties

Perform related tasks assigned by the Principal, including directing Marching Band, Pep Band, and Jazz Band.

Equipment

Use standard office and music equipment, including computers, printers, and musical instruments.

Travel Requirements

Travel to district buildings and professional meetings as needed.

Qualifications
  • Colorado State Certification as a Music Teacher.
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Prior successful teaching experience in music preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and differentiated instruction.
  • Ability to play and conduct musical instruments.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
Physical and Mental Demands

Salary

$43,501 - $58,425 depending on experience
