Job Description

The Elementary Instrumental Music Teacher facilitates student success in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs, providing a safe learning environment, and offering feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding progress, expectations, and goals. The candidate may teach band, orchestra, or both, depending on school placement.

This position reports to the Principal.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
• Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license with an endorsement in Music: Instrumental PreK-12, or eligibility to obtain one.

Essential Functions

• Adapts classroom work to meet students' individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
• Administers assessments to evaluate student competency and develop individual learning plans.
• Communicates student progress and expectations to parents and guardians, and develops methods for improvement.
• Assesses student progress and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborates with staff, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support school goals.
• Counsels students on performance, health, problem-solving, and personal issues.
• Demonstrates methods for effective classroom and subject-specific instruction.
• Supervises assistant teachers, student teachers, volunteers, and student workers.
• Instructs students to enhance academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills.
• Manages student behavior to ensure a safe learning environment.
• Monitors students in various settings to maintain safety and positivity.
• Participates in meetings to share and gather information.
• Prepares documentation on student progress and mandated reports.
• Reports incidents to ensure safety and compliance with policies.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
