Job description

Role Mission: IDEA Electives teachers instruct students in grades 6-12 in various subjects, including electives such as ACT Prep Skills, Art, AVID, Band, Music, Technical Writing, Theatre Arts, or AP Psychology. All IDEA Elective teachers are responsible for ensuring that students master academic and social skills necessary for college success, embody IDEA's values daily, set ambitious achievement goals, create a powerful learning environment, plan and deliver rigorous instruction, assess and track student progress, analyze data for intervention, and seek excellence as educators and team members.

What We Offer

Compensation:

  • The starting salary for new teachers is $51,500. This role is eligible for stipends based on certifications and credentials, ranging from $500 to $4,000. Opportunities for additional earnings include our Teacher Career Pathway, which can add up to $10,000 in compensation. More details are available on our compensation and benefits page.
  • Additional hourly pay is provided for after-school tutoring or Saturday school as assigned.

What You Bring -- Competencies

Qualifications:

  • High proficiency in content area, evidenced by certification, field of study, or work experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience in a K-12 classroom preferred
  • Florida educator certification or willingness to pursue it; IDEA offers certification programs for non-certified teachers

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to various situations in the school environment

What You’ll Do -- Accountabilities

Responsibilities:

  • Implement state standards, IDEA curricula, and assessments to meet academic expectations
  • Master and deliver relevant content and grade-level curriculum
  • Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance
  • Use assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Communicate student progress weekly with students and families
  • Utilize technology effectively for communication and instruction
  • Implement behavior management systems aligned with campus initiatives
  • Contribute to a positive school culture
  • Build trusting relationships with students and families
  • Host tutoring sessions as needed
  • Participate in meetings, duties, and professional development
  • Spend at least 40 hours per week at school; additional duties may include tutoring or Saturday school
