Washington International School seeks a Music Teacher for grades 2-6 in the Upper Elementary Division. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Music Education, a passion for teaching, and proficiency in music performance and theory. Position Overview
Upper Elementary Division Music Teachers are inquisitive, nurturing, fun-loving, flexible, and creative. They model lifelong learning for their colleagues and students. They involve themselves in areas of the School beyond their classroom walls. They are responsible for fulfilling all of their responsibilities in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the School. They are responsible for differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all students in their class.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Music Education (Master’s Degree preferred)
State of Georgia Teaching Certificate/License or equivalent from another state (preferred)
Training in Orff-Schulwerk, Kodaly, and Dalcroze Eurythmics (preferred)
Minimum three years teaching experience with elementary children (preferred)
Essential Requirements, Duties, and Responsibilities
Creates and implements developmentally appropriate music curriculum
Has proficiency in singing, reading music, and playing the piano
Shows a passion for teaching music to elementary children using a variety of instructional methods and the capacity to create an environment in which all children consider themselves musicians and develop a love of music
Shows a passion for teaching music using a variety of instructional methods
Has excellent classroom management skills and models appropriate behavior for the students
Understands and supports developmental benchmarks academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally
Demonstrates strong organizational skills
Incorporates cultural diversity through the music curriculum
Develops, orchestrates, and directs a minimum of two school-wide performances each year
Collaborates effectively with other music team members and colleagues to support the school community
Communicates proficiently in oral and written forms
Takes initiative to fulfill typical responsibilities and demonstrates a willingness to problem solve atypical situations
Effectively uses best practices in teaching and learning to design and deliver instruction
Presents well-planned lessons and has the ability to shift in the moment with child initiated ideas; able to apply differentiated teaching methods
Maintains accurate and comprehensive records of each child’s performance and progress, including the My Learning digital portfolio SeeSaw
Models appropriate behavior for students and is able to effectively engage children in learning and practicing appropriate behavior
Uses technology to enhance instruction and communicate effectively
Understands responsible digital citizenship
Maintains an organized, pleasant, and inviting learning environment
Initiates and actively participates in professional development opportunities
Participates in associated duties such as carpool, lunch, and recess

This is a salaried exempt position, not eligible for overtime, under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This position reports to the Upper Elementary Division Head.
Work Hours
Generally, Faculty will work Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:40 AM–3:15 PM, Wednesdays 7:40 AM - 4:30 PM, and Fridays 7:40 AM – 2:15 PM.
Generally, new Faculty will work the hours above except Tuesday afternoon when new employees have New Faculty Academy for an additional 30 minutes.
Faculty and Staff rotate weekly morning carpool which starts at 7:30 AM and afternoon carpool which lasts a minimum of 30 minutes.
When necessary, the employee must be flexible in the ability to work more than her/his regular daily or weekly schedule to complete duties and/or be available for parent conversations and consultations.
