Music Program Coordinator


Vanguard College Preparatory School in Waco, TX is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Music Program Coordinator to join our faculty. This position is responsible for teaching middle and high school orchestra, including a string and wind ensemble, and coordinating other ensembles such as percussion ensemble and choir. This can be a part-time or full-time position depending on skill set and availability.

The ideal candidate works well as part of a team and utilizes best practices in a creative and practice-based learning environment with an emphasis on developing curiosity and musicianship in students. Benefits and competitive pay are included in compensation.

Opportunities to coach chamber music or participate in other extracurricular activities outside of orchestra are also available.

Position Begins: August 1, 2025

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and direct engaging rehearsals that align with state and curricular standards for each ensemble.

  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes solo practice, positive self-critique, active listening, and problem-solving skills.

  • Encourage positive competition on an individual and ensemble level.

  • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom culture.

  • Utilize hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences.

  • Assess/monitor student progress through assignments, performances, and other summative musical experiences.

  • Coordinate meaningful performance schedules as a team player under the leadership of the Fine Arts Department Head.

  • Integrate technology, interactive tools, and creative play to enhance the learning environment.

  • Provide regular communication with students, parents, and colleagues regarding musical progress and classroom expectations.

  • Collaborate with fellow faculty and staff to enhance curriculum and school programs.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.

  • Serve as a mentor or advisor to students, fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom culture.

  • Support extracurricular programs through coaching, club sponsorship, or other leadership roles (optional).

Preferred Qualifications & Skillsinclude:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in music education or performance

  • Experience in ensemble teaching or coaching at the high school and/or middle school level

  • Ability to engage students in multiple levels of music simultaneously

  • Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching approach

  • Models and guides proper behaviors

  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills
