Job summary

National Geographic Society is seeking a Security Officer for our Washington, DC area campus. The role is full-time with a rotating 10-hour shift schedule, covering days, evenings, and nights across 7 days a week.

Responsibilities include patrolling, screening, and prompt reporting of security breaches to protect staff, guests, and assets. The successful candidate will have at least 2 years in physical security, a valid DC unarmed officer commission within 1 month, and experience with access

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum 2 years of physical security experience.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to be commissioned as a DC Unarmed Special Police Officer within 1 month of hire.
• Experience with access control systems and screening technologies preferred.
• Strong situational awareness and crisis management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Observe and report safety concerns and security breaches during inspections.
• Deter, detect, and prevent incidents and enforce policies.
• Conduct building patrols and screenings; respond to emergencies.
• Operate and monitor screening systems; escalate incidents as needed.
• Stay on duty during emergencies and assist the security team as required.
