Job summary

City and County of San Francisco’s SFO Museum seeks a Museum Registrar (class 3556) for full-time civil service employment. The role manages registration for exhibitions, loans, and collections, coordinating with airport departments and external partners.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in art/museum studies and substantial registration experience, with strong documentation, care and transport skills. Overnight shifts may be required occasionally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in art, art history, museum studies, arts administration or closely related field; four years of verifiable museum registration experience.
• Master’s degree in art, art history, museum studies, arts administration or closely related postgraduate program; two years of verifiable museum registration experience.
• Computer literacy in word processing, database management and a computerized registration system.
• Background in applying principles of museum object care, documentation, and classification.
• Proficiency with FileMaker Pro and PDF management tools such as Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities

• Complete exhibition management for approximately 5–10 exhibitions annually and meet production due dates.
• Oversee all exhibition loan processing, cataloging, and related forms and records.
• Maintain storage, housing, environmental controls, and security for objects in exhibitions.
• Coordinate with multiple departments and supervise interns in Registration as needed.
• Accompany valuable objects in transit and oversee shipment handling.

Education

Bachelor's degree in art history or museum studies

Master's degree in art history/museum studies (optional)
