Job summary

Agua Caliente Cultural Museum seeks a Registrar to manage its general collections, ensuring care, accurate records, and secure storage. The role supports exhibition planning, incoming/outgoing loans, and related policies, reporting to the Head of Collections & Curatorial.

The Registrar will train staff, maintain climate controls, and coordinate shipping and installation tasks. The ideal candidate has a museum background with experience in Native American artifacts, strong database skills, and

Qualifications

• Experience with standard museum collections management practices including object handling and cataloguing.
• Experience with digital photography and Photoshop.
• Experience with audio/visual collections and the care associated with those collections.
• Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, database management and familiarity with Collection Management Systems (such as PastPerfect).
• Understanding of installation and removal of exhibits, including creating condition reports, packing objects and coordinating shipping of collection items and loans.
• Knowledge of best practices in collection management including handling, care, preservation, installation and storage of material culture.
• Extensive knowledge of Southern California Indigenous cultures and culturally relevant collection/handling practices.
• Familiarity working with tribal governments and community members.
• Valid California driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily management of ACCM collections and access.
• Maintain inventory and update database records.
• Assist in exhibition planning and handling of loans.
• Prepare condition reports and packing/shipping for collections and loans.
• Develop SOPs and train staff on handling and emergency preparedness.
• Coordinate with facilities on climate control and storage.
