Job description

Why work for the Town of Frisco as the Museum Programming Coordinator? There aremanyreasons!

This non-exempt (hourly) position requires working knowledge of museum operations, educational programming for children and adults, and public history theory. The Museum Programming Coordinator is responsible for the education programs at the Museum including guided tours and field trips and requires a high degree of knowledge of collections management, best archival practices, and research techniques. The position is responsible for the development and maintenance of exhibitions on-site and off-site. Processes research requests submitted to the Museum, including primary source research and writing for both general and professional audiences.

As part of the Museum team, this individual staffs the Museum desks in the back or front and gift shop daily and staffs special events and works on holidays throughout the year. Museum operating hours are Tuesday-Sunday 9am-5:30pm with some extended hours for events, projects, and programming.

This position supervises volunteers and part-time staff on specific projects, and acts as a MOD (manager on duty) in the absence of the Museum Manager.

Museum Programming Coordinator hiring wage range = $29.94 - $37.42

Museum Programming Coordinator full wage range = $29.94 - $44.91

  • Greets each guest with professional and friendly demeanor; participates in staffing the museum customer facing desks and gift shop
  • “Manager on Duty” as scheduled; responsible for open/close procedures, daily operations, and oversight of staff/volunteers
  • Handles repetitive questions, scenarios, and tasks with enthusiasm and professionalism; clearly delivers information in addition to responding to guest inquiries and complaints in a professional manner
  • Actively connects with guests to share history of Frisco; maintains knowledge of Frisco and Summit County history; continues to expand knowledge on related topics
  • Responsible for guided walking and adventure tours program including research, development, scheduling, training, obtaining permits, and facilitation of programming
  • Responsible for field trips and education programming for children including research, development, alignment of programs with state guidelines, and facilitation of programming
  • Responsible for the research, writing, and installation of exhibitions on-site and off-site; participates in team-wide exhibit development and research; participates in the development of 2-3 exhibits of varying size per year
  • Manages budget for areas of responsibility and any assigned projects; including sourcing materials following best archive practices and environmental goals
  • Participates in conducting and transcribing oral histories; maintains relationships with interviewees and local community members
  • Processes and accessions donations and loans, leads collection inventories and condition reports, and completes other collection projects; responsible for maintaining established standards of care for the archive and collections
  • Participates in creating content for social media and Museum newsletter as needed
  • Completes image and research requests according to Museum procedures; includes data entry, writing for public and professional audiences, and research best practices such as citations
  • Participates in the development and execution of special events and community outreach programs
  • Participates in Historic Preservation projects as needed; includes research, writing, and some fabrication
  • Maintains effective relationships with management, Town of Frisco staff, community members, and guests
  • Works productively independently and in a team-based environment in supporting the Communications, Marketing, and Culture Department; other Town departments and Town of Frisco vision, mission, goals, and priorities
  • Displaysexcellent skills in visitor or guest relations, customer service, and retail operations.
  • Must be able to stay organized.

Specific knowledge, skills and abilities needed for position:

  • Required: High School diploma or GED.
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree inhistory, Museum Studies, Public History, or related field.
  • Required: Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Preferred: Experience with PastPerfect and Adobe Suite.
  • Required: CPR/AED & First Aid Certification(or ability to obtain within the first 6 months. Training provided by the Town.)
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Required: Three years (3) of experience in public history, museum work, collections/archives, or similar field.
  • Required: Two years (2) of experience with researching and writing.
  • Required: Two years (2) of experience related to guest service of any kind.
  • Preferred: Two years (2) of experience related to education programming.
  • Preferred: One years (1) of supervisory experience.
  • Required: Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Required: Ability to function independently and make sound and reasonable decisions in the absence of supervisory guidance.
  • Required: Ability to pass a background investigation.
  • Required: Proven ability to work with the public and children Pre-K to 12th grade.
