Job summary

History Colorado seeks an Assistant Educator to support planning, delivery, and facilitation of educational programs at Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center. Work closely with educators to provide inclusive, historically accurate experiences for diverse audiences.

The role involves hands-on history programs, school group activities, and community events, with emphasis on Indigenous and underrepresented voices. Strong teaching and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong interest in history, education, museums, or cultural work.
• Self-motivated, creative, enthusiastic, and well organized with strong communication skills.
• Formal or informal teaching experience with children aged 5–18.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation, setup, and breakdown of educational programs, hands-on history programs, workshops, tours, and events on and offsite.
• Plan and facilitate Hands-On History Programs.
• Lead guided tours and learning activities for students and the public.
• Research Colorado, Fort Garland, and the San Luis Valley to inform programming and exhibits.
• Adapt programs for diverse age groups, learning styles, and accessibility needs.
• Prepare educational materials and activity guides.
