Job summary

Computer History Museum seeks a dedicated professional to safeguard and manage its extensive physical object collection across multiple locations in California. You will support the Collection Director in custodianship, documentation, and access, including packing, exhibit installation, and loan processing.

The role requires strong organizational and photography skills, CMS experience, and the ability to work closely with a diverse team.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in museum studies with 2+ years hands-on experience with physical museum objects
• Experience with artifact collections management, record-keeping, storage systems, handling and packing
• Knowledge of IPM, security, and risk mitigation for collections
• Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to manage time effectively
• Photography and photo editing skills
• Strong communication and teamwork across diverse groups
• Experience with large artifacts, pallet jacks, cataloging, and CMS usage

Responsibilities

• Maintain CHM’s nomenclature hierarchy.
• Coordinate warehouse logistics and forklift operations.
• Operate scissor lift and manage earthquake strap replacements.
• Update and track object locations across warehouses and museums.
• Handle loan objects, condition reports, and documentation.
• Prepare, pack, and transport CHM loan objects for exhibition or storage.
• Assist with loan deinstallations and exhibit installations.
• Perform security walkthroughs and pest management at the warehouse.
• Travel between CHM locations as needed (Mountain View, Fremont, Milpitas).
