Job summary

MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA is seeking a full-time Preparator/Fabricator. This hourly position—40 hours per week—will work alongside installation/fabrication staff to meet deadlines collaboratively.

The ideal candidate will be a team player with experience in art handling, fabrication, and installation, and will demonstrate strong craftsmanship, problem-solving, and safety awareness on a busy museum project site.

Qualifications

Two years of fabrication and art installation experience.
Bachelor's degree in Art and Design or equivalent experience.
Strong work ethic, craftsmanship, and collaborative spirit.
Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, collaborators, and artists.
Knowledge of packing, crating, handling, and installing artworks.

Responsibilities

Art handling, including unloading/loading trucks and packing/unpacking artworks.
Construction and manual labor for exhibition installation; painting, sanding, cleaning.
Assembling large and complex artworks with a team.
Custom fabrication spanning woodworking to metalworking; sculptural processes.
Maintain safe, tidy workspaces and positive rapport with colleagues and artists.
