Job summary

MASS MoCA is seeking a dedicated Preparator/Fabricator for a full-time hourly role in North Adams, MA. You will work with the installation and fabrication team to meet deadlines and contribute to large-scale and site-specific works.

The ideal candidate has strong art-handling skills, fabrication experience, and a collaborative mindset. Duties include safe handling, woodworking, metalworking, and assisting with exhibitions and installations at MASS MoCA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Art and Design or equivalent experience; include cover letter/resume.
• Minimum two years' fabrication and art installation experience.
• Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, collaborators and artists.
• Strong work ethic, craftsmanship, problem-solving, creativity and teamwork.
• Knowledge of packing, crating, handling, and installing artworks.
• Experience working in construction, in a workshop or fabrication shop.

Responsibilities

• Art handling, including unloading/loading trucks, packing/unpacking artworks and installing with registrars.
• Construction and manual labor: light demolition, moving large objects with material handling equipment, painting, sanding and cleaning.
• Collaborate with team to assemble large and complex artworks.
• Custom fabrication across woodworking to metalworking and sculptural processes.
• Maintain positive rapport with colleagues and artists and ensure safe, tidy spaces.
