Position: Part-Time Mural Tour Guide

Location: Lynn, MA

Hours: Part-time, some work on weekends and occasional evenings based on seasonal installs and events

Start Date: ASAP

We’re looking for someone who’s engaging, curious, and excited to walk people through the stories behind our murals — the artists, the neighborhoods, and the impact of public art in places like downtown Lynn.

ABOUT US

Beyond Walls activates public space to strengthen communities. We are a non-profit placemaking organization that uses a creative lens to address community needs, believing that cities thrive when they are full of art, engaged stakeholders, and active spaces. Through public art and innovative design, we enhance the built environment, promote social engagement, and drive positive change in communities. To date, Beyond Walls has served over 13 communities, focusing on former industrial cities, many of which have majority minority populations. These areas often face unique challenges in revitalizing their built environments and downtowns. By activating public space through creative collaborations, we bring diverse perspectives and resources together to create lasting impact.

Responsibilities of a Mural Tour Guide:

As a Mural Tour Guide, you’ll lead engaging walking tours, offering insights into our growing collection of murals. You’ll help visitors explore the art, meet the stories behind the paint, and connect with the local culture and community.

Some of the responsibilities include:

Providing Information: Sharing details about the murals, the artists, the artistic techniques used, and the stories behind them.

Engaging with Visitors: Answering questions, encouraging discussion, and ensuring a positive and informative experience for all participants.

Logistical Support: Scheduling tours, managing reservations, and coordinating with other staff.

Safety and Security: Ensuring the safety and well-being of the tour group, potentially including knowing emergency procedures and safety guidelines for the area.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Public Speaking:Comfortable and effective at presenting information to groups.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to engage with diverse audiences and answer questions clearly.
  • Time Management:Ensuring the tour stays on schedule and that each mural gets adequate attention.
  • Ability to memorize and relay detailed information in an engaging, factual, and fun manner.
  • Attention to detail, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, ASL or Khmer preferred.
  • Background in the arts, education, or guided tours preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including moving around an urban environment with uneven surface for a 1.5 hour walking tour.
