Job summary

The Town of Burlington seeks a Town Engineer to lead the Engineering Department, directing civil engineering operations, budgeting, and project oversight. You will manage design, inspection, and procurement while coordinating with town agencies and the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
• Registered Professional Engineer licensed in Massachusetts.
• MCPPO certification preferred or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• Six years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience, with two years in managerial role (municipal experience preferred).
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• CAD design skills preferred.
• GIS and GPS/Total Station skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees civil engineering operations for planning, design, and inspection.
• Reviews development projects; addresses drainage, sewage, roads, and traffic issues.
• Maintains contact with town departments, state and federal agencies, and the public.
• Attends board, commission and public meetings outside office hours.
• Manages procurement compliance for the department.
• Administers the engineering department including capital and operating budgets.
• develops plans and specs for municipal construction contracts.
• Prepares division annual reports; tracks regulatory changes and bylaws.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field

Registered Professional Engineer licensed in Massachusetts

MCPPO certification preferred or ability to obtain within 1 year

Six years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience; 2 years in managerial role

Strong computer skills; Google Workspace

CAD design skills preferred

GIS mapping skills preferred

GPS/Total Station Collector skills preferred
