Job summary

The City of Delaware, Ohio is seeking an Assistant City Prosecutor to perform professional legal work in preparing and prosecuting cases in the Delaware Municipal Court. The role involves autonomy, collaboration with law enforcement, courts, and city administration, and requires availability for on-call rotations as needed.

Responsibilities include charging decisions, trials, plea negotiations, and appeals, with opportunities to handle civil matters and serve as a city attorney on select issues.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, and a Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
• Must be a member in good standing of the Ohio Bar.
• Demonstrated courtroom and trial experience preferred.
• Regular and reliable attendance.
• Demonstrated adherence to professional conduct rules.

Responsibilities

• Makes charging decisions after review of police reports and applicable law.
• Conducts trials and pretrial hearings.
• Prepares cases for trial and negotiates plea agreements.
• Prepares motions, pleadings, and memoranda for court filings.
• Prosecutes appeals to the Fifth Appellate District Court of Appeals.
• May serve as assistant city attorney on annexation, easements, contracts, and related matters.
