Job summary

The City of Hialeah is seeking an Assistant City Attorney to supervise and administer litigation activities for the Law Department, handling federal and state court cases and advising municipal departments, the City Council, advisory boards, and the Mayor. The role concentrates on major litigation, appeals, and creditor rights matters, including foreclosures and bankruptcy proceedings.

Requires a Juris Doctorate, at least five years of litigation experience, and active Florida Bar membership.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Minimum of five (5) years of litigation experience, preferably in local government.
• Active membership in good standing of the Florida Bar.
• Preference for admission to US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Responsibilities

• Represent the City in foreclosure actions and related proceedings to protect and enforce the City’s liens and interests.
• Initiate foreclosure proceedings on behalf of the City.
• Represent the City as a creditor or other interested party in bankruptcy proceedings.
• Provide legal advice to City departments concerning creditor rights and collection activities.
• Investigate case details and prepare evidence to defend the City in lawsuits and file complaints as approved by City Council.
• Interview witnesses, read depositions, and analyze information before trials.
• Represent clients in court litigations, arguing on the City’s behalf to a jury or judge.
• Maintain contact with involved personnel and prepare all necessary legal documents.
