Job summary

Town of Berlin seeks a Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial affairs of the Town, reporting to the Town Manager. You will guide long- and short-term financial policies, supervise the Finance Department and Assessor’s office, and ensure robust internal controls and timely financial reporting to all departments and external agencies.

You will work closely with department heads and officials on budget formulation, tax analysis, and capital planning, providing strategic financial leadership

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field with 10+ years of experience or five years municipal finance leadership.
• Master’s degree in business or public administration preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills and experience with cloud-based software.
• Experience managing staff (direct and indirect reports).

Responsibilities

• Oversee treasury, budgeting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, grants management.
• Manage fixed assets, debt issuance, external audits, and annual audit reports.
• Lead financial planning for 10-year CIP and capital budget, funding alternatives.
• Coordinate with Board of Finance and Town Council on budgets and fiscal reports.
• Provide financial leadership to town utilities and oversee related reporting.
