Job summary

The City of New Hope is seeking a detail-oriented accounting professional to join its finance team. The position handles accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipting and special assessment records for the City, with occasional payroll and utility billing duties.

You will collaborate with the city’s accountant, utility billing clerk, financial consultants and leadership team. Strong communication skills are essential as you interact with coworkers across the organization.

Qualifications

• Associates/Technical degree with coursework in business or related field and moderate accounting experience.

Responsibilities

• Completes data entry for journal entries as prepared by accountant/financial consultant.
• Performs data entry, filing, correspondence, duplicating and other daily tasks.
• Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and financial reports.
• Maintains city-wide accounts payable system and vendor master file; reconciles purchasing card transactions.
• Coordinates check writing and electronic payment file creation; processes electronic cash disbursements.
• Prepares claim reports for City Council; answers vendor inquiries and traces/detects issues.
• Assists in bi-weekly payroll and payroll-related liabilities; assists with W-2 processing and issuance.
• Prepares and maintains various schedules and accounts receivable invoices; notifies delinquencies and reconciles with GL.
• Maintains special assessment records and reports data for annual certification to county.
