Job summary

Clark Dietz, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Civil/Environmental Team in the Southern WI/Northern IL area. You will plan, design and supervise municipal infrastructure projects including roads, water, sewer and stormwater, collaborating with owners and the team to deliver solutions.

The role requires a PE license in IL or WI and 6+ years of relevant experience; CAD/Civil3D and hydraulic software proficiency are important. A flexible hybrid schedule supports work-life balance.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.
  • IL or WI PE license required.
  • 6+ years of municipal infrastructure design and construction experience.
  • Ability to research materials, develop cost estimates and bid documents.
  • Collaborate with team members and manage tasks to completion.
  • Understand local codes and review plans.
  • Strong written and verbal communication to stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D; hydrology/hydraulic software a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze municipal infrastructure components (roads, water, sewer, stormwater).
  • Develop solutions and evaluate life cycle costs for projects.
  • Create drawings/models per design standards using CAD software.
  • Prepare reports, plans, specs, estimates and permit docs.
  • Provide construction-phase services for local projects.
  • Interpret plans for contractors and interface with owners/operators.
  • Review submittals, change orders, and as-builts.
  • Maintain project files and daily site activity reports.
  • Draft correspondence and participate in project meetings.
  • Support new business development and client relationships.

Position Overview

We currently have an opportunity available for a Civil Engineer to join our Civil/Environmental Team in our Southern WI/ Northern IL Area. The selected candidate will assist with planning, design, and construction for a wide variety of municipal infrastructure projects including local roads, trails, water, sewer and storm water projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs design tasks including computations and analysis for municipal infrastructure including, local roads, water mains, sanitary sewers and storm water facilities.
  • Applies engineering principals to develop solutions and evaluate performance and life cycle cost of municipal infrastructure improvements.
  • Creates drawings and models following the company’s design standards and utilizing the designated CAD or modeling software with limited guidance.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports, plans, specifications, cost estimates, supporting documents and permit applications.
  • Provides construction phase services for local roads, trails, sanitary sewer, potable water, and storm sewer infrastructure projects.
  • Interprets construction plans and documents for the contractor and client, interface with owners/operators regarding potential interference with operations,
  • Performs full or preliminary review of shop drawings, submittals, change orders, punch lists and contractor as-builts.
  • Maintains project documentation, daily reports of construction site activity, project files, RFIs and submittals as needed
  • Drafts correspondence, reports, participates in project meetings and communicates effectively with all project stakeholders.
  • Participates in securing work from new and existing clients and maintains client relationships.
Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
  • IL or WI PE license is required.
  • 6+ years of experience with the design and construction of municipal infrastructure (roads, trails water, sewer, and stormwater) is required.
  • Ability to research and specify materials/equipment, develop/review cost estimates and bid documents is required.
  • Ability to follow through on tasks to completion, research and recommend solutions, collaborate with other team members, and delegate tasks to Jr. staff and technicians.
  • Ability to understand and interpret local building/zoning codes and review plans.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to draft correspondence, reports and communicate effectively with all project stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (Civil3D) is required; WaterCAD, SWMM, GIS is desired.
  • Experience in hydrologic/hydraulic analysis software including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, XP-SWMM, Biowin and/or other similar software packages is desired.
  • A valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to local project sites is required.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Starting salary range: $89,960 – $118,560 + annual performance bonus.
