About The Department

About The Job

Under the direction of the Municipal Court Administrator, maintain order and security in the court facility. Responsibilities include courtroom duties, monitoring security scanners, controlling defendants and jurors, and ensuring efficient court operations. Work is reviewed for adherence to policies and procedures.

Illustrative Examples Of Work

• Maintain order and security; monitor security scanners and weapons detectors; search belongings; pat down individuals if needed; control visitors.
• Operate security cameras, retrieve and record video content.
• Direct jurors; prepare courtrooms for sessions; supervise custody of inmates and transfers.
• Assist visitors; maintain reference materials; update legal publications.
• Assist with administrative tasks; inspect facilities for safety hazards; communicate with external security entities; perform related duties.

Minimum Education And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years law enforcement experience.
• CPR and first aid certification within six months.
• Successful background check and polygraph.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Work primarily in a courthouse, requiring quick adaptation to changing priorities.
• Stand for up to 6 hours; walk stairs, respond to emergencies.
• Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; shift work in evenings.
• Stressful situations involving conflict and potential violence.
