Job summary

The City of Worcester is seeking an Assistant City Solicitor I - Generalist to join its Law Department. Under the City Solicitor, you will handle risk assessment of pre-litigation claims, draft ordinances and contracts, and represent the City in court and administrative proceedings.

Qualifications include a JD from an ABA-accredited school, MA Bar admission, and strong civil litigation and drafting capabilities. Bilingual applicants are encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Perform risk analysis and evaluate pre-litigation claims.
• Represent and counsel the City, departments, and boards on civil, administrative, and legal issues.
• Represent the City in state and federal courts, administrative bodies, and tribunals.
• Litigate civil, administrative, and code enforcement cases for the City.
• Assist in developing legal structures, ordinances, and interpretations of laws.
• Draft, serve and file legal documents in housing, district, and trial courts.
• Present legal interpretations and advice to city administrators.
• Attend meetings and participate in staff and department activities.
