Fishbeck is actively seeking a creative and talented Civil Engineer in our Lansing, MI office to help service our municipal clients. The qualified candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of professional experience working with communities from design through construction on a broad range of municipal projects. This position requires self-motivation, commitment to high-quality work performance, excelled planning and communication skills and the ability to work independently and with other staff in a project team environment.


Primary Functions


  • Plan and design for water main, sanitary and storm sewer, and road projects for local municipalities.

  • Perform design calculations, quantify bid items, develop cost estimates, execute CAD drafting, and prepare reports.

  • Specify project-specific technical specifications, standard construction drawings, and Maintenance of Traffic.

  • Assist in Bidding and Construction Phase Services on municipal projects including RFIs, shop drawing review, and as-built drawings.

  • Work closely with other technical staff from all Fishbeck offices to assist in providing consulting engineering services from state and private universities, municipalities, and local development clients.

  • Interact daily with project teams in a multi-discipline and multi-office environment.


Minimum Physical Requirements

Exposed to occasional lifting and carrying. Will have normal office working conditions and be required to sit and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and maneuvering around project sites for attending client and project meetings and site observations. Able to use various technical equipment for communication and documentation. Visual acuity is necessary to perform responsibilities.


Desired Education

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Biosystems Engineering


Desired Skills/Experience


  • Licensed PE

  • 4+ years of experience with the design of water main, sanitary sewer, and road projects.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.

  • Experience with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Construction and Material Specifications and MDOT's Local Agency Program is a plus.

  • Excellent computer and communication skills.
