Multispecialty Coder II - Remote

Job Summary

Must reside in one of the following states: Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee. Experience in Behavioral Health, Hospitalist, Palliative Care, Infectious Disease, or Neuro is highly preferred. Responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM/CPT-4 codes and modifiers for billing, reporting, research, and compliance. Reports to the Coding Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate Degree in a medical field preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: CCS, CPC, RHIT, RHIA, CMC, or CCA.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills

  • At least 2 years outpatient coding experience required; 6 months of HCC experience preferred.
  • Ability to code for multiple specialties, including E&M levels.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to classification systems for outpatient encounters.
  • Use coding principles and reimbursement expertise to assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses, CPT-4 codes, E&M levels, and modifiers.
  • Review documentation to accurately extract and enter data.
  • Follow coding compliance policies, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding set by AHIMA and official coding guidelines.
  • Ensure patient, staff, and visitor safety; follow organizational policies and standards within budget and time constraints.
  • Support professional growth through continuing education and mentoring.
  • Create compassionate, personalized experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
