Job summary

New York Botanical Garden maintains and repairs buildings and related work across all Garden properties, including the perimeter fence. The Maintainer performs painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, shop work, and automotive repairs to keep facilities in good condition.

Applicants should have 3-5 years of general maintenance experience, a valid driver’s license, and OSHA 10/30 certification or the ability to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in general maintenance work, preferably in plumbing, masonry, carpentry and electrical.
• Must pass a written and practical exam and be able to work weekends.
• Driver’s license required.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification required or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill assigned work orders and communicate with managers, team members, and garden staff.
• Execute new projects from inception to completion related to construction or fabrication of new structures or items.
• Maintain maintenance shops and storage rooms and comply with safety regulations.
• Monitor the work of Assistant Maintainers and ensure projects are completed safely and satisfactorily.
• Maintain records, inventory, and prepare reports on work and materials used.
• Inspect tools, equipment, and vehicles and maintain supply inventory.
• Demonstrate proficiency in ladders, lifts and other work platforms.
• Perform office moves and assemble/move/deliver furniture and supplies.
• Set up tables, chairs, tents, stages and equipment for garden events.
• Perform snow removal using snow blowers and shovels.
• Participate in all training provided by the Garden.
