Job summary

Travis County is seeking a Building Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of moderately complex tasks across carpentry, HVAC, painting, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and machine servicing. This position may require work in secure facilities and a flexible schedule to meet department needs.

The role emphasizes preventive maintenance, inspections, time/materials estimation, and safe operation of tools and equipment. A valid Texas driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and 3 years building maintenance experience.
• EPA Universal Certification preferred or must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
• Valid Texas Driver's License.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work in varying temperatures and environments.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment, building components, and facilities.
• Inspects facilities, identifies work requirements, and submits service requests.
• Estimates time and materials, tracks tools and inventory, and monitors supply use.
• Performs electrical, plumbing, masonry and carpentry repairs; services HVAC systems.
• Replaces broken glass, installs light fixtures and switches; remodels and builds cabinets/shelves.
• Prepares surfaces for painting and performs painting/sealing.
