Job summary

Stamford Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide patient care in outpatient physician practices and support clinical and clerical tasks across a Float Pool. You will interact with patients, assist with examinations, collect vital signs, and help maintain smooth clinic operations.

The role requires a Medical Assistant certification and BLS, with opportunities for training across multiple specialties within the Float Pool.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certification or Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
• Heart Saver or BLS Certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care in outpatient physician practice under the direction of the practicing physician, physician assistant, or licensed nurse.
• Assist with clinical and clerical duties to ensure optimization of patient experience within the practice.
• Greet patients in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries.
• Prepare patients for visits by directing them to the examination room, providing gowns and drapes, arranging room instruments and supplies, and positioning them for examination and treatment.
• Verify patient information by interviewing, reviewing, and recording medical history, taking vital signs, and confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
• Support patient care delivery by helping providers during examinations, preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory tests on the premises, disposing of contaminated supplies, sterilizing instruments, drawing blood, preparing patients for x-rays, taking electrocardiograms, removing sutures, and changing dressings.
• Complete records by documenting patient examination, treatment, and test results.
• Schedule hospital procedures, surgeries and tests; precertify and obtain test results.
• Handle phone calls and messages for prescriptions, notes, and forms.
• Complete disability and insurance forms.
• Maintain clinical flow in all areas of the practice.
