Job description

Multiple Myeloma Hematologist

The Division of Hematology and Hematologic Malignancies at the University of Utah and the Huntsman Cancer Institute is seeking to recruit a faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, DO/PhD, to be an integral member of the Plasma Cell Dysplasia Program. The role focuses on clinical trial development and patient accrual for multiple myeloma, as well as other plasma cell disorders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and participating in clinical trials as principal investigator.
  • Designing and conducting investigator‑initiated studies with novel therapies.
  • Collaborating within the clinical Plasma Cell Dysplasia program to advance research projects with high clinical impact.
  • Supervising a multidisciplinary clinical staff, including advanced practice clinicians, pharmacists, and coordinators.
  • Managing cooperative and industry‑sponsored trial participation and securing intramural, extramural, and foundation funding.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or DO (or equivalent) with board certification in Hematology or Oncology, with or without a PhD.
  • Eligibility for a Utah medical license.
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience in treating plasma cell dyscrasias (smoldering myeloma, multiple myeloma, amyloidosis, Waldenström macroglobulinemia).
  • Strong track record of clinical trial participation and funding acquisition.
  • Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and capability within an academic environment.

The mission of the Division is to provide state‑of‑the‑art diagnostics and treatment in a compassionate environment for patients with hematologic cancer and non‑malignant conditions. The Department currently has 31 full‑time clinical faculty engaged in subspecialties and research. The position will practice primarily out of the Huntsman Cancer Institute and University of Utah Hospital.
