Job summary

Stand Insurance seeks a Machine Learning Engineer on the Applied Science team in San Francisco to design, train, and deploy our flagship AI capabilities. You will focus on multimodal meshing of the Stand World Model with powerful language models, uniting physical simulation, 3D asset representations, and business context for better underwriting, pricing, and mitigation decisions.

You will own modeling work end-to-end, from architecture and training strategy through evaluation and production

Qualifications

• Must design and train multimodal models, fuse diverse data into shared representations.
• Produce trained models and deploy them to production.
• Apply ML to complex physical systems; domains include physics-grounded modeling.
• Experience training or fine-tuning LLMs, with tool use and agentic workflows.
• Demonstrate strong ownership and execution of complex technical work.
• Able to connect technical work to business objectives across disciplines.
• Communicate decisions, tradeoffs, and status clearly and concisely.
• Be proactive, adaptable, and comfortable in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy ML systems spanning multimodal learning, physics-informed AI, digital twins, and spatial intelligence.
• Own projects end-to-end from problem definition to production deployment and monitoring.
• Develop rigorous evaluation frameworks weighing model judgments against business outcomes.
• Build on and extend scalable ML infrastructure.
• Partner with Platform team on the model-harness interface.
• Drive cross-functional alignment and communicate progress to stakeholders.
