Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Data Understanding researcher to advance how multimodal data is prepared, curated, synthesized, and understood at scale. You’ll work on solving research and production problems, including synthesizing multimodal content and building quality filters to drive improvements in model performance.

You will be expected to publish or prototype new ideas, own and drive a research agenda, and engage with OpenAI’s empirical, collaborative approach to research.

Qualifications

• Strong track record of new or improved ML ideas through publications, projects, or applied research.
• Own and drive a research agenda, from choosing the right multimodal data problems to long-running work with impact.
• Be excited by OpenAI’s empirical, collaborative approach to research.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive research direction for multimodal data problems and their supervision.
• Synthesize multimodal data (images, audio, video) and advance data prep pipelines at scale.
• Collaborate across teams to measure the impact of dataset changes on model performance.
