Job summary

NBCUniversal's KTLM/Telemundo San Antonio–McAllen bureau seeks an experienced journalist to research, shoot, write, edit, and deliver compelling local news for broadcast and digital platforms.

You will generate enterprise stories, build sources, and cover breaking news with live reports from field and studio. Strong Spanish skills and the ability to work flexible hours in McAllen, TX are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a reporter, MMJ, or journalist producing original news content.
  • Experience shooting, writing, editing, and producing news stories independently.
  • Strong Spanish-language skills, both written and verbal, and ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Experience with professional video, editing, and newsroom systems.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and during breaking news.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and be based in McAllen, Texas.
  • Must have unrestricted U.S. work authorization, be at least 18 years old, and possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, shoot, write, edit, produce, and present accurate and compelling news stories for broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platforms.
  • Generate original and enterprise story ideas relevant to the local community.
  • Develop and maintain strong sources and community contacts to produce exclusive and impactful reporting.
  • Cover breaking news and provide live reports, interviews, and updates from the field and studio.
  • Produce daily news packages, special reports, and enterprise stories while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Create original content for KTLM/Telemundo digital and social platforms.
  • Collaborate with producers, assignment editors, anchors, photographers, MMJs, and other newsroom teams.
  • Operate professional cameras, lighting, audio, editing, and live transmission equipment, including LiveU and/or Dejero.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Represent KTLM/Telemundo professionally at community and station events.
  • Maintain flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed in a 24/7 newsroom.
  • Adhere to NBCUniversal and Telemundo News Standards and Guidelines, including social media and professional conduct policies.
