Job summary

NBCUniversal Local in McAllen, Texas, is seeking an experienced journalist to research, shoot, write, edit, and present accurate news stories for broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platforms. You will generate enterprise story ideas and maintain strong community contacts to deliver exclusive reporting.

You will cover breaking news with live reports, collaborate with newsroom teams, and operate professional video and transmission equipment, including LiveU/Dejero.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a reporter, MMJ, or journalist producing original news content.
  • Experience shooting, writing, editing, and producing news stories independently.
  • Strong Spanish-language skills, both written and verbal, and ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Experience with professional video, editing, and newsroom systems.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and during breaking news.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and be based in McAllen, Texas.
  • Must have unrestricted U.S. work authorization, be at least 18, and have a valid driver's license with acceptable record.

  • Operate professional cameras, lighting, audio, editing, and live transmission equipment, including LiveU and/or Dejero.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Represent KTLM/Telemundo professionally at community and station events.
  • Maintain flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed in a 24/7 newsroom.
  • Adhere to NBCUniversal and Telemundo News Standards and Guidelines, including social media and professional conduct policies.
