Job summary

WTOC-TV/Gray Media seeks a journalist/MMJ to handle front-line news gathering in Savannah, GA. You will respond quickly to breaking stories, pursue human-interest angles, and build strong community connections while producing a dynamic, informative newscast daily.

The role requires solid reporting, writing, and on-air delivery skills, plus ability to shoot, edit, and post content across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms. Preference for a journalism degree and newsroom experience.

Qualifications

• Collaborate with anchors, reporters, editors, directors, and management to choreograph the newscast from big picture to minute details.
• Post content to the website daily.
• Cover breaking/spot news and develop a strong network of sources in the community.
• Present stories live across multiple platforms (broadcast, streaming, digital, social).
• Drive to/from stories; shoot video, write scripts, and edit stories (VO, VOSOT, PKG).
• Be collaborative when working with a photographer and present stories live in field or studio as needed.

Job Summary/Description:

WTOC is looking for a journalist who wants to try it all. MMJs are the front line of news gathering at WTOC. They are quick to respond to breaking news, determined to find the human impact on daily stories, and steadfast in building connections in our viewing area. Producers work with anchors and technical media producers to create an informative, dynamic newscast each day.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• - Produce local news daily; select stories, determine story order, write broadcast scripts, select video, create and/or order graphics and other showcasing elements to enhance viewer experience and understanding of content.
• - Create and execute a vision for the newscast that is anchored in audience research.
• - Collaborate with anchors, reporters, digital producers, editors, directors, management, etc. to choreograph all elements of the newscast from the big picture to minute details.
• - Post content to the website daily.
• - Check in on our assigned beat area and share updates daily.
• - Primary news-of-the-day journalist who will be LIVE across multiple platforms.
• - Create compelling content for broadcast, streaming, digital, and social platforms daily.
• - Cover breaking/ spot news.
• - Develop a strong network of sources in the community.
• - Seek out diverse perspectives and include those voices in stories.
• - Drive to/from stories; shoot video, write scripts, and edit stories (VO, VOSOT, PKG).
• - Be collaborative when working with a photographer.
• - Present stories live in the field and the studio as needed.
