Job description

Assignment: Part‑Time – 0.5 FTE (approximately 20 hours per week)

FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt

Reports To: Chief Communications Officer

Location: District 113 Administrative Building/Office

Hybrid work arrangement: some responsibilities completed remotely and others performed onsite.

Compensation: $32‑$40 per hour, based on experience; IMRF eligible‑position

Summary

The Multimedia Content Producer supports the Communications Department by creating engaging, high‑quality digital content that highlights the people, programs, and experiences across the district. This role leads visual storytelling through video, photography, and social media to enhance communication with students, families, staff, and the broader community, elevating stories that reflect the district’s priorities and values. The position plays a key role in ensuring that the voices and experiences of students and staff from diverse backgrounds, identities, and abilities are authentically represented across district communications.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Film or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience producing high‑quality video and digital content in a communications, media, or marketing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects from concept through final production, including scripting, filming, and editing.
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms and digital communications.
  • Experience working within a school district, higher education, or public sector environment is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in video production and editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro) and photography/photo editing software (e.g., Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Strong storytelling, writing, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently while maintaining high‑quality output.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including school leaders, staff, and students.
  • Knowledge of digital media trends, audience engagement strategies, and platform‑specific best practices.
Essential Functions

1. Multimedia Production & Storytelling (40%)
  • Develop and produce high‑quality multimedia content, including short‑form and long‑form video, photography, and graphics aligned to district priorities.
  • Lead the full production process, including planning, scripting, filming, editing, and post‑production.
  • Capture and tell compelling stories that highlight student experiences, staff work, and district initiatives across the entire district.
  • Provide visual coverage of events, programs, and key initiatives across both high schools and the district.
  • Create and manage content for district social media platforms, websites, and other digital channels.
  • Ensure content reflects district branding, messaging, and engagement goals.
  • Apply platform‑specific strategies to maximize reach, accessibility, and audience engagement.
3. Collaboration & Strategic Communications (20%)
  • Partner with school and district leaders to proactively identify and execute storytelling opportunities.
  • Support Communications Department initiatives by aligning multimedia content with district priorities and campaigns.
  • Balance district‑wide consistency with the unique culture and identity of each high school.
4. Website & Accessibility Support (10%)
  • Support website content updates with a strong emphasis on visual storytelling.
  • Ensure all multimedia content meets WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and reflects inclusive communication practices.
  • Stay current on digital media trends, tools, and storytelling techniques.
  • Bring forward innovative ideas to enhance district communication and engagement.
Language Skills

Communicates clearly both verbally and in written format with all constituents of the District 113 community. Effectively presents information and responds to questions from constituency groups. Applies knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Establishes and maintains effective and collaborative working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Performs duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Mathematical and Technical Skills

Applies technical knowledge of multimedia production, digital platforms, social media platforms, and content management systems. Additional technology skills include standard Microsoft Office suite / Google Suite, financial management, and data analysis. Applies concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability

Defines creative and communication challenges, gathers input from stakeholders, and develops effective multimedia solutions. Exercises sound judgment in prioritizing projects and storytelling approaches while managing multiple deadlines.

Contacts Outside Your Own Department

Builds positive relationships with constituents of the District 113 community that includes teachers, school staff, administrative team, Board of Education, guardians, students, and community partners.

Working Conditions

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with regular exposure to loud classrooms, hallways, cafeterias or sports venues.
  • The employee is regularly required to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and staff in addition to meeting multiple demands from several people.
  • The employee is frequently required to work irregular or extended work hours, which may include evenings or weekends.
Safety

As a part of the District workforce, this role is responsible for being aware of, modeling and contributing to the maintenance and implementation of all District safety policies and procedures. The role is directly responsible for the safety, well‑being, and work output of students.
