Job summary

City of Decatur seeks a part-time Communications Specialist to create multimedia stories and support livestreams and social media. You’ll help share city services, events, and programs to residents, with 20 hours per week and flexible scheduling for events.

You will lead video production, photography, and digital content creation, while ensuring accessibility, branding, and editorial standards across departments.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, broadcasting, multimedia production, marketing, public relations, digital media, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• Experience with video production, photography, livestreaming, broadcast operations, digital media, journalism, public relations, or governmental communications.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Plans, shoots, edits, and produces video content for City communications.
• Photographs City events, programs, facilities, infrastructure projects, employees, elected officials, and community activities.
• Produces short-form videos, feature stories, informational videos, public service content, and promotional materials.
• Creates content for the City’s website, social media channels, video platforms, presentations, and other outlets.
• Coordinates with Information Services and other departments on equipment, network, software, and technical needs.
