Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory seeks an Agile Product Owner to bridge technical depth with project leadership for the NNPTP. You will surface training pain points, convert them into software requirements, and drive prioritization across multiple teams.

You will lead efforts on new capabilities, including hardware-software integrations and a digitized student qualification tablet project, while expanding expertise in applied mathematics and optimization modeling used in automation and scheduling tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical, engineering or science field with 6+ years of relevant experience; or
  • Master's degree in a related field with 4+ years; or
  • Doctorate in a related field with 1+ year; or
  • Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Responsibilities

  • Surface operational pain points and translate them into software requirements for development teams.
  • Provide leadership to projects delivering new capabilities to NNPTP by contributing to research, design, integration and testing.
  • Collaborate with training personnel to surface issues and prioritize features across multiple organizations.
  • Grow skills in applied mathematics and optimization modeling used in automated scheduling tools.

Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Training Applications & Support (TAS) organization, part of the Naval Training & Simulation (NTS) Department, plays a vital role in supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Training Program (NNPTP). TAS is responsible for the engineering and maintenance of a suite of programs, data systems, and optimization models to assist personnel at the Moored Training Ships (MTS) and Kesselring Site (KS) in managing and improving activities critical to the Prototype phase of initial nuclear operator training. These tools include enterprise applications for qualification tracking, automated scheduling, reporting, exam administration, and integration services linking training databases together.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team in a high-visibility position that blends technical expertise with project leadership and collaboration as the Agile Product Owner. Leveraging your experience in Prototype operations, you will bring an end?user perspective to provide leadership and integration across multiple applications. You will collaborate with training personnel to surface operational pain points, clarify problem statements, and convert them to software requirements for development teams, helping to shape priorities with ensuring priority features are identified and delivered.

You will also provide leadership to projects delivering new capabilities to the NNPTP by contributing to research, design, integration, and testing of new hardware and software systems such as a digitized student qualification tablet solution for the Next Generation Training Program. There is also the opportunity to grow skills in applied mathematics and optimization modeling used in automated scheduling tools.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or
  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or
  • Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
Preferred Skills
  • Operational experience in the NNPTP such as Navy Training Coordinator, Nuclear Plant Engineer (NPE), or Crew Training Engineer (CTE).
  • Familiarity with Agile software development processes and Azure DevOps.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences and influence priorities across multiple organizations.
  • Applied mathematics or optimization modeling experience.

Pay Range

$95,700.00 - $149,600.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
