Job summary

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required with 1–3 years in residential/commercial inspection or related work
• Equivalent combinations of training and/or experience accepted to meet required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Valid NC Class C Driver's License or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
• Level I certification in Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Inspector is required

Responsibilities

• Performs building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing field inspections of residential projects
• Responds to information requests and inquiries
• Provides technical advice to City staff, design professionals, the public, and other project stakeholders
• Interprets building codes and ordinances for applicable trade specialties
• Performs code-related research and identifies trade code compliance issues
• Provides alternative solutions to resolve issues
• Prepares and maintains reports, records, data, and documentation related to inspections and reviews
• Plans and prioritizes schedule and field activities
• Maintains communication with property owners, other inspectors, and stakeholders to coordinate inspections
• Identifies and promotes processes encouraging citizen engagement
