Job summary

The City of Odessa is seeking a Building Codes Inspector to enforce building, electrical, plumbing, fuel gas, and mechanical codes and city ordinances. You will conduct on-site inspections, review plans, and issue notices of violation when needed, while coordinating with homeowners, contractors, and city staff.

You must cross-train across trades, maintain licenses, and demonstrate strong communication and computer record-keeping skills in a fast-paced municipal environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2 years' experience in commercial and/or residential construction.
• Must have considerable knowledge of one or more of the major construction trades.

Responsibilities

• Knowledgeable of codes, ordinances, and permit processes.
• Conducts on-site field inspections for building, electrical, plumbing, fuel gas, and mechanical codes.
• Inspects construction for compliance with plans, codes, and zoning.
• Documents inspection results and maintains records daily.
• Advises owners, contractors and others on code requirements and procedures.
