Job summary

The Frederick Gunn School in Connecticut seeks dedicated substitute teachers for the 2026–27 academic year to cover classes when faculty are absent, ensuring continuity of student learning. You'll implement lesson plans, take attendance, maintain classroom order, and engage students with meaningful activities.

Ongoing support comes from department chairs during emergencies and through an annual orientation.

Qualifications

• Teaching experience or relevant work with adolescents is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree is required, education degree preferred.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills are essential.
• Ability to adapt to various disciplines and teaching styles.
• Background check and reference screening successfully completed.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom coverage for absent teachers across multiple subjects.
• Take attendance, follow lesson plans, and maintain academic continuity.
• Maintain a safe, respectful learning environment and classroom order.
• Engage students with meaningful activities with support from department chairs as needed.
• Communicate lessons and student progress with the absent teacher or department chair.
• Uphold school policies and community standards.
