Job summary

NHS Tayside invites applications for a multi-skilled Technician to join the Facilities team at Carseview Centre, NHS Tayside's primary adult acute mental health inpatient facility. You will provide a first-line maintenance service across mechanical, electrical, and building systems, ensuring a safe, compliant environment for patients, staff and visitors.

The role covers 24/7 service with shift rota, planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and minor improvements.

Qualifications

Holds a recognised apprenticeship (CITB/EITB or equivalent) and relevant engineering qualification (e.g. City & Guilds / ONC / BTEC).
Significant maintenance experience in healthcare or complex environments across electrical, mechanical and building services.
Ability to work independently, under pressure and during out-of-hours shifts.
Strong problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and resolve faults across multiple engineering systems.
Maintain and repair HVAC, boilers, ventilation, electrical distribution, lighting and fire alarms.
Provide technical support and supervision to contractors and junior staff.
Act as point of contact for permits to work and contractor management.
Respond to emergencies including fire alarms, equipment breakdowns, lift entrapments and infrastructure damage.
Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation and NHS standards.
Maintain records using electronic maintenance systems.
