Job summary

The City of Redding is establishing an eligibility list for the Building & Facilities Mechanic I/II. Incumbents will work under general supervision and perform duties relating to installation, maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, mechanical equipment, street signs, irrigation systems and other property within the assigned division.

Currently, one full-time vacancy exists for Building & Facilities Mechanic I in the Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department.

Qualifications

  • Typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Journey level of skill in one of the crafts listed above; proficient in routine tasks in others.
  • Three years relevant experience in craft or building maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, cement work, masonry, welding, and custodial duties.
  • Operate city vehicles and equipment including bucket truck, forklift, and tractors.
  • Direct the work of other personnel when required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Install, maintain and repair buildings, hangars, lighting, runways, and airfield surfaces per FAA/TSA rules.
  • Maintain airport buildings and perimeter fencing; respond to tenant problems.
  • Maintain landscaped areas at two City-owned airports.
  • Repair solid waste containers and drop boxes; service powered compactors.
