Job summary

ConocoPhillips in Midland, TX currently seeks a field-based Lease Operator (MSO) to responsibly operate wells and facilities across our Midland Basin assets. You’ll use mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot equipment, perform daily field operations, monitor production, and ensure safe, compliant operations in outdoor environments.

Experience in mechanical maintenance or equipment operation is valued, with training provided.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years in mechanical maintenance, equipment operation, or inspection.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work outdoors in remote field locations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily field operations across wells and facilities, monitor equipment and production to ensure safe flow.
  • Inspect tanks, meters, separators, compressors, and pipelines for leaks or issues.
  • Gauge tanks to measure crude oil and water levels.
  • Operate and troubleshoot compressors, gas lift wells, sand traps, and flowback equipment.
  • Maintain chemical injection rates and execute start-up/shut-in procedures.
  • Enter and validate production data in digital systems for reporting.
  • Participate in safety reviews, regulatory documentation, and site walk-throughs.
  • Update P&IDs and site security documentation.
  • Respond to alarms and fulfill on-call duties to minimize downtime.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and company policies.

Job Summary

ConocoPhillips holds approximately 416,000 net acres in the Midland Basin, located in west Texas. The current development strategy is focused on full-field development utilizing multi-well pad projects targeting Barnett, Spraberry and Wolfcamp reservoir targets. We operated three rigs and one frac crew on average during 2025, resulting in 86 operated wells drilled and 94 operated wells brought online. During 2025, net production averaged 192 MBOED.

Position Overview

At ConocoPhillips, our Lease Operators—known internally as Multi-Skill Operators (MSOs)—play a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable oil and gas production across our assets. This field-based position offers the opportunity to work independently in dynamic outdoor environments, using your mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills to make a real impact. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds. Oil and gas experience is a plus but not required—strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn are equally valued. We are hiring for the North Midland Basin area.

Your responsibilities may include:
  • Perform daily field operations across assigned wells and facilities, monitoring equipment and production performance to ensure safe, reliable flow and timely response to operational needs
  • Inspect tanks, meters, separators, compressors, and pipelines to identify and prevent leaks or operational problems
  • Gauge tanks to measure crude oil and water levels for safe and efficient transfers
  • Operate and troubleshoot compressors, gas lift wells, sand traps, and flowback equipment
  • Maintain chemical injection rates and execute well start-up/shut-in procedures
  • Enter and validate production data in digital systems to support accurate reporting and decision-making
  • Participate in facility walk-throughs, safety reviews, and regulatory documentation
  • Update piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) and site security documentation
  • Respond to alarms and fulfill on-call duties to minimize downtime and resolve field issues
  • Apply all safety, environmental, and company policies to protect personnel, assets, and the environment

Basic Requirements
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Current/valid driver’s license
  • 1 or more years’ experience in mechanical maintenance, equipment operation, or inspection
  • Able to perform the physical demands and work environment requirements of the position, as described in the job description, with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred Requirements
  • 1 or more years’ experience in oil and gas production or health, safety, and environmental (HSE) roles
  • Associate’s degree or trade certification in Production Technology or a related field.

  • Responsive to visual and auditory signals, alarms, and instructions
Physical Demands & Work Environment

This is a Safety Sensitive position.

  • Outdoor work in remote locations with exposure to varying weather conditions, including temperature extremes
  • Frequent walking, bending, stooping, climbing (up to 24 feet), and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Regular use of hand tools for minor repairs and equipment adjustments
  • Frequent driving between multiple sites in a company‑provided vehicle
  • May involve working alone for extended periods
  • Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and strict adherence to safety protocols
  • May require weekend work and participation in an on-call rotation
