Job description

Build the next chapter of your healthcare leadership career as a Pharmacy Director, leading pharmacy operations across multiple healthcare settings while making a meaningful contribution to patient safety, clinical quality, and organizational performance. This opportunity offers an experienced pharmacy leader the ability to oversee a broad range of pharmacy services, work closely with clinical and administrative teams, and enjoy the outdoor recreation and quality of life that make Central Montana an appealing place to live and work.

The Pharmacy Director will oversee pharmacy operations across affiliated healthcare entities, including hospital-based acute care pharmacy and infusion pharmacy services. This role brings together clinical practice, operational management, medication safety, and financial accountability across multiple sites. The department plays an important role in supporting physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals in delivering safe, coordinated patient care. For a pharmacy leader ready to take ownership of a broad service area, this position offers meaningful responsibility across both hospital and outpatient settings.

The Pharmacy Director will be responsible for establishing pharmacy policies, procedures, staffing plans, service standards, and operational objectives. Additional responsibilities include overseeing medication-use processes, monitoring staff performance, maintaining regulatory compliance, managing pharmacy budgets, reviewing revenue and expenses, and preparing productivity reports. The director will also evaluate pharmacy programs, identify opportunities to improve workflows, and ensure that medication prescribing, dispensing, administration, and monitoring processes support patient safety. Collaboration with providers, nursing leadership, finance, and other departments will be an important part of the role.

This position offers an opportunity to influence pharmacy services at the organizational level while remaining connected to the clinical and operational needs of individual departments. The Pharmacy Director will supervise, educate, and evaluate pharmacy staff while helping establish consistent practices across applicable sites. The role also requires participation in interdisciplinary teams and committees, effective resource management, and the ability to balance clinical priorities with financial and operational goals. An understanding of pharmacy contracts, group purchasing organizations, and profit-and-loss performance will be valuable in managing the department's overall responsibilities.

For an experienced pharmacy leader, this role provides the opportunity to apply established leadership skills across a broad healthcare environment. The successful candidate will bring knowledge of state and federal pharmacy regulations, medication management, pharmacokinetics, pharmacotherapeutics, and the clinical considerations that influence safe medication use. Strong communication, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and administrative skills are important, along with experience using pharmacy information systems and standard business applications. Candidates should hold a BS or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy, have a current pharmacist license in good standing with the Montana State Board of Pharmacy, and bring three to five years of Pharmacy Director experience within a complex healthcare system.

Central Montana offers a lifestyle with access to outdoor recreation, scenic landscapes, and a welcoming community environment. Residents can enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, cycling, skiing, and camping, with opportunities to explore Montana's mountains, rivers, and open spaces throughout the year. The region also offers local dining, community events, and everyday amenities without the pace of a major metropolitan area. For professionals considering a relocation, the area provides a different balance between career responsibilities and time outside of work, with a range of recreational opportunities available for individuals and families.

The Pharmacy Director will receive a competitive compensation package and comprehensive benefits, with additional details available during the recruitment process. Retention and relocation bonuses are available.
