Job summary

KOMO is seeking a Fall 2026 News Intern to immerse in a fast-paced newsroom, helping research, write, and produce stories for broadcast and digital platforms. You’ll work closely with reporters, anchors, producers, and photographers both in the studio and out in the field.

Ideal candidates are 18+, enrolled in a relevant program, and available for about 15 hours/week for 10 weeks on-site in Seattle. Start dates range Aug 24–Sep 14; transportation required; ARC storytelling approach emphasized.

Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or a recent graduate.
  • Be at least a sophomore at an accredited college/university.
  • Be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Be available to work on-site at KOMO in Seattle, WA approximately 15 hours per week for 10 weeks.
  • Be able to start between August 24th - September 14th.
  • Have reliable transportation (housing/relocation is not provided).
  • Be passionate about local news, storytelling, and community impact.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create & Contribute: Assist in researching, writing, and producing news stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Be Where the Action Is: Work alongside reporters, anchors, producers, and photographers - both in the newsroom and out in the field.
  • Pitch Ideas: Bring fresh story ideas to the table and help shape coverage that matters to our audience.
  • Get Hands-On: Learn how to shoot video, frame compelling visuals, and understand what makes a story stand out.
  • Behind the Scenes: Gain exposure to control room operations and how live broadcasts come together in real time.
