Overview
The Multi-Modality Radiology Technologist performs imaging procedures and holds a national registry in at least two modalities, such as X-ray and CT. This position provides basic patient care, maintains equipment, transports patients, and prepares and maintains documentation.
Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Obtains patient history.
- Educates patients and families regarding procedures, treatment, risk factors, and prevention.
- Positions patients appropriately for radiographic procedures.
- Performs radiographic procedures and analysis according to departmental guidelines.
- Develops and evaluates radiographic results for quality parameters.
- Applies learned methodologies with independent judgment per policies and procedures.
- Performs prescribed procedures following established policies.
- Maintains infection prevention standards.
- Explains procedures and answers patient questions.
- Prepares, cleans, inspects, and maintains equipment.
- Produces quality images and presents them with relevant patient information for interpretation.
- Prepares and maintains accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as needed.
- Collaborates with physicians and other medical professionals.
CT:
- Operates head or body scanners to create cross-sectional images for diagnosis.
- Produces CT radiographs of specific areas.
- Sets appropriate technical parameters for accurate demonstration of anatomy and pathology.
- May perform obstetric, gynecological, abdominal, retroperitoneal scans, and radiation therapy localization.
Mammography:
- Prepares patient and equipment for mammography procedures.
- Positions patient and adjusts immobilization devices for proper compression.
- Performs radiologic mammography exams, including screenings and diagnostics.
- May participate in advanced procedures like stereostatic biopsies, clip placements, and drainages.
Diagnostic/X-ray:
- Performs radiographic procedures using stationary and mobile equipment.
- Sets up the x-ray room and manipulates equipment properly.
- Ensures proper image capture for diagnosis and treatment.
- Processes and develops x-ray films and creates digital copies.
Quality:
- Adheres to standards affecting patient care and safety, as well as organizational policies.
- Performs equipment quality control and troubleshooting.
- Monitors workflow and maintains inventory to ensure uninterrupted service.
Education:
- Participates in creating a learning environment supported by evidence-based practice and research.
- Engages in professional development and peer interactions.
- Participates in ongoing training, in-service, and educational seminars.
- Mentors and educates colleagues and students.
Compliance/Safety:
- Stays current with regulations and company policies.
- Ensures certifications and licenses are up-to-date.
- Completes mandatory modules and job-specific training on time.
- Reports safety incidents promptly and attends safety training.
- Performs work safely and monitors the environment for safety issues.
Qualifications
Education:
Associates of Applied Science or related fields, accredited MRI program, AMA-approved Nuclear Medicine Technology Program, or accredited Ultrasonography program.
Certification & Licenses:
- Fingerprint Clearance Card (application required upon hire, card within 90 days).
- BLS certification (American Heart Association).
- Current Radiologic Technologist certification with ARRT.
- Arizona Department of Health Radiology Technologist license.
- ARRT CT certification or equivalent experience for CT eligibility.
- AZDHS Certified Radiologic Technologist and CT license.
