Performs computed tomography procedures and related techniques. Administers x-radiation to produce diagnostic images for physician interpretation. May be required to alternate shifts, weekends, holidays, and take call. May be asked to flex hours and overtime as necessary to provide quality patient care at assigned sites. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. Performs other duties as assigned.


Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs diagnostic Computed Tomography procedures and techniques.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed.
  • Reviews patients' clinical history ensuring that appropriate scan is ordered, and labs are within range - reviewing with radiologist and/or provider as necessary.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Provides practical instruction for students and partners.
  • Initiates basic life support actions when necessary.
  • Starts and maintains intravenous access, may include power injectable implanted ports and specialized lines.
  • Applies principles of patient safety during all aspects of procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
  • Operates CT scanner and power injector to produce cross-sectional images of patient anatomy for diagnostic purposes.
  • Administers contrast media orally and intravenously maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Documents all information pertinent to CT procedure in electronic medical record, including medication reconciliation.
  • Ensures patients receive discharge information regarding the exam, including patient letter and information.
  • Flex to various shifts needed to support the department, may be required to flex up hours as needed including weekends, holidays, and call.
  • Assist radiologist with interventional procedures as needed.
  • Reports and documents CT safety incidents/adverse events per protocol.
  • Assist with medical record/image sharing as necessary.
  • Follows ALARA principles through accurate scan techniques and parameters.
  • Utilizes associated workstation to produce post-process imaging and 3D reconstructions as required per protocol.
  • Adjust scan protocols/parameters as necessary for individual patient need.
  • Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, submits images and data for physician review and interpretation.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited radiography program.

Minimum one (1) to three (3) years of experience as a CT technologist preferred; trainees and new graduates will be considered.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

ARRT Radiography registration required.

ARRT Computed Tomography registration required within 2 years of hire.

IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois; WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin; CPR or BLS certification within 90 days.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Passing driver's license and/or credit checks as applicable.

Background checks for Illinois or Wisconsin healthcare workers.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
