POSITION: Multi-Intensive Severe Center Program Special Education Teacher

GRADE LEVEL: High School

SALARY: $64,000-$82,000, based on up to 10 years of relevant experience. A relocation stipend is available for those moving from 75 miles or more from Denver.

STATUS: Full-time, year-round, benefits-eligible, exempt, in-person

Role Overview

Our Special Education Teachers are leaders integral to welcoming, knowing, and challenging students with disabilities to achieve their post-secondary goals. Learn more about a Day in the Life of a Special Education Teacher here.

Key Responsibilities
  • Be an IEP Case Manager: Manage a portfolio of students, write data-driven IEPs, develop goals, monitor progress, deliver targeted academic & behavioral interventions, and collaborate with teachers and families.

  • Ensure Accommodations/Modifications: Partner with general education teachers to implement accommodations and modifications consistently. Participate in the MTSS team to advocate for all learners.

  • Manage a Team: Supervise and develop paraprofessionals.

  • Deliver Content: Use DSST’s curriculum to plan and teach rigorous, culturally responsive content to 3-5 classes daily, depending on campus and content area, for students with intellectual disabilities.

  • Track Student Growth: Use assessments to monitor and support individual progress.

  • Support Personal Care: Assist students with needs such as G-Tube feeding and bathrooming, maintaining health and wellness schedules.

  • Promote Positive Culture: Use DSST culture systems to foster a positive classroom and school environment, building trusting relationships with students and families.

  • Professional Development: Engage in coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities, emphasizing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

  • Contribute to School Community: Support additional duties such as student recruitment, advisory classes, after-school tutoring, etc. Explore more here.
